Founded in 1997 by James Highland, PhD, MHSA, Compass Health Analytics, Inc. is a health care consulting firm dedicated to improving health care effectiveness, efficiency, and access.

On July 16th, 2017 we merged with BerryDunn, the largest CPA and consulting firm headquartered in Northern New England. The combined market presence of the two companies, as well as our extensive expertise and experience in the analytics and health policy practice areas, bring tremendous opportunities for deepening the services we provide to existing and new clients.

We provide clients with:

  • Strategic health care finance and policy advice
  • Health care actuarial services
  • Sophisticated financial and economic analysis
  • Quantitative analysis of complex clinical and administrative data
  • Data warehousing and data management solutions

Our broad experience and focused approach help our clients achieve their policy, financial, or clinical goals.

In addition to our headquarters in Portland, Maine, we have offices in the Hartford, Connecticut area.

Our Approach

At Compass we believe that to address any problem in an effective and lasting way, we must carefully identify its root causes and clearly describe the preferred state of resolution. We evaluate background context and empirical information before diagnosing the problem and prescribing a solution. Rather than always forcing clients into a canned solution, we use the breadth of our health care knowledge, our solid grasp of the analytical frameworks inherent in health care analysis, and the depth of our technical skills to ensure each client’s unique problem is identified correctly and solved.

Compass brings to each client relationship a focus on results, working collaboratively to deliver value and taking ownership of client problems and their resolution. We tailor our approach to the client’s needs and have a well-established track record of providing successful customized solutions. For most clients, we become a dependable resource for meeting their ongoing specialized analytical needs, and we pride ourselves on maintaining long-standing client relationships.

At Compass, our first concern in any engagement is keeping our clients’ protected health information (PHI) and other proprietary data secure. We deploy physical, procedural, and technical safeguards, including maintaining a secure data storage environment employing multi-factor user authentication, virus/malware detection, and data encryption (at rest and in motion), and we regularly conduct vigorous risk assessment and management. Our Information Privacy and Security program is designed to meet or exceed Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) requirements and ensure that PHI is vigorously safeguarded while in our possession.
